The new Republic of North Macedonia

Friday 15 to Sunday 23 February

As we were preparing to visit Macedonia, it was making news. Following a referendum in 2018 to decide if the people would accept EU and NATO membership and the Prespa agreement. Although the outcome was overwhelmingly positive, not enough citizens took part to be valid.

By January 2019 parliament had made a ruling that the country should be named the Republic of North Macedonia.

So we were visiting a new country with a lot ahead of it. There were expectations the future EU and NATO memberships would allow the economy to grow.

Our visit started in Skopje before travelling south the the wine region of Tikves then to Lake Ohrid. We returned to Skopje for our last days.

The family returned to their respective homes, while we started our adventure in Kosovo.
